How to make this shadow effect?

Postby grawr » Mon Feb 19, 2018 12:12 pm

I wanted to experiment a bit with some pretty words and wanted to recreate something like this. It seems easy but i am not sure how to get the lines to be parallel. Thanks :D

Hi.
It's more like a copperplate-like writing than one with a fixed pen angle (=parallel lines).
There is no *automated* solution to emulate the effect as it is a matter of calligraphy, how the pen is pulled, how the frontline is articulated during writing etc.
However there is the powerstroke path effect that can come handy manually resizing the width of strokes at a given point.

If you are referring with parallel lines on the lettering and not the cast shadow.
For the latter there is the motion/extrude extension, which may also need manual tweaking and/or extra nodes added to the source paths.

If you have the font ready, and want to change its perspective, you can also use the perspective/envelope path effect for it (plus the extension, after doing Path > Object to path to flatten the path effect.)

1. Type text
2. Keep it selected, do Path > Union
3. Path > Path effects...
4. +
5. Select Perspective/Envelope from the list
6. Select 'Perspective'
7. Switch to node tool
8. Drag on the four corners to create the perspective
9. When happy, do Path > Object to Path
10. Use the extrude Extension.
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

PS
Suggest the subject of the topic be changed to something like "How to make this shadow effect?".
