Is it possible to snap gradient stops to the grid?
p.s. tried searching the forum for an answer but search is ignoring the term gradient

Re: possible to snap gradient stops?
Snap gradient stops to grid? I'm not sure. I believe that I have snapped gradient stops in the past. But snapping was rather overhauled with the last stable release (version 0.47). Let me do some testing, and I'll post again with my results.

Re: possible to snap gradient stops?
Ok, that didn't take as long as I thought.
You can snap the 2 end stops to grid intersections, with "Snap nodes or handles" and "Snap to grid" buttons enabled on the Snap control bar. But the intermediate stops will not snap.
However, and contrary to what was my understanding, we still have the Gradient Editor. (I was told it was to be phased out, and I thought it would be with 0.47, but I guess either I was wrong, or it is still planned, but hasn't yet happened.) Anyway, with the gradient editor, you can set the distance between stops. So it's not as convenient as snapping, but exact placement of stops still can be done. Please see this info on using gradients in the Guide: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... ine-Editor.
I'm not sure how, but dvlierop, our resident snap expert, somehow finds all messages about snapping. So I'm sure he'll take note of this, and hopefully have gradient stops snapping in no time, lol.

As an aside, I'm dreading the day that the gradient editor gets phased out - on the contrary I would rather see it gain some functionality.
I do a lot of work with gradients in my comic strip - in fact some strips can be almost entirely gradient fills. Because elements get copied and pasted in from older strips or files of stock elements, the number of identical or very similar gradients in a document tends to grow very, very quickly. On-canvas editing of them just makes matters worse.
I'd rather see the gradient editor grow into a similar interface to the filters dialogue - a list of gradients on the left, and the editor on the right. That would allow you to create named gradients, and if the list was sorted by the HSV values of the gradient stops it would tend to group similar gradients together, making it much easier to identify duplicates.
Like I said, a complete aside, and no help to the original poster at all

Off topic:
I like that idea! I haven't read up on the current plans or status, so maybe things have changed?making it much easier to identify duplicates
Speaking of identifying gradients and duplicates, I have wished for the ability to name them, perhaps with some icon affixed, to indicate a duplicate.

Re: possible to snap gradient stops?
I submitted a feature request on Launchpad for some more gradient functionality a while back, with the emphasis on being able to reduce the number of gradients by making it easier to identify and re-map them.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/516108
I didn't mention the idea of named gradients as I felt the report was already getting too long - but perhaps that warrants another feature request.
