A lot of my DXF collection is turning out to be too big for the A4 space on my desktop. Tried making the area bigger and then importing the DXF into that, but I can't make the canvas and the DXF smaller together.
Could some one please tell me how to make the dxf files smaller before I import them to Inkscape, so they fit the A4 screen.
Bye the way is there an online converter that will let me turn my DXF files into SVG so I can import them to Makercam and skip this step altogether.
Thanks.
[Solved] Resizing DXF
Re: Resizing DXF
Since DXF is a vector format, it probably doesn't matter what size it is. The size can be changed at any time, without affecting the quality. So I would suggest to go ahead and open the DXF in Inkscape, and then scale it to the size you need. And you can also change your page size, if it's not what you need.
Note that it's common for DXF images to be absolutely huge, in Inkscape, depeding on the settings used in the dialog, when you open it. For the longest time, I thought I could not see DXF images in Inkscape. Whenever I opened one, it would be blank. But eventually, I realized that it wasn't blank. It's just that it was so huge, it was as if I was zoomed in to one pixel, while the image was hundreds of times bigger.
But again, since it's a vector format, it can be scaled without losing any quality.
I can't answer about an online converter. I guess it would be possible, but I can't name one for you.
But you should be able to do it in Inkscape, without any trouble. Do you need instructions?

Re: Resizing DXF
Your right Brynn
Its bloody enormous and covers all of the screen, trust me to pick the Deer's Head as it had 21 parts, but it all seemed to resize into my 2' X 3' cutting area. It turned out to be so simple I should have played about with it for a while before rushing up here and start asking stupid questions and wasting other peoples time.
Any way thanks for your help. All sorted

Oh, don't feel too bad. It took me several years to figure it out!
