Hi Good night to all. Can you examine my attached file & please explain to me why I can't perform a difference on the file to get it cut ready for vinyl. I am only looking for the white to be cut into the vinyl hence any colour on the back of the vinyl decal will show through. I have ungroup & grouped every section of this logo in attempts to get it done but keep getting the " one is not a path" message. Somehow I think it may have to do with the putting of the text on a path by using the construction circles & the opacity which may be causing the issues as it seems to be the text which has the issue. Your explanation or direction to a previous discussion is most welcome.

I had to Ungroup 4 times before I got rid of all the groups. (Watch the status bar with each click of Ungroup, to find out when there are no more groups.) This causes the paths which form the letters to be individual letters. So you will need to take another few steps.

If you do it this way, you will not have a problem with the path part of the text on path.

1 -- select the text around the top of the circle
2 -- Path menu > Combine

3 -- Repeat for the text at the bottom of the circle
4 -- Repeat for the text in the middle

5 -- Select all the white objects
6 -- Path menu > Combine

Now the white pieces are all one object, and you will be able to use Difference to "cut out" the white pieces.

Theoretically, it should be possible to select all the white pieces, and Combine all at once. But that ends up selecting the circular path which you used for Text on Path. Since it can sometimes be tricky selecting that path (so that it can be removed from the selection) I suggest avoiding it by selecting the text and white pieces using the steps above.

Someone else may come up with an easy way to select the white parts all at once, and avoiding the text on path path. So this is just the way I would do it.

View outlines can be handy.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
