I just used Inkscape for the first time on a machine running Fedora 15 and can't figure out how to get the ALT key working as the various settings apps have changed considerably from GNOME 2.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks!
Specifically, I'm trying to use ALT + [arrow key] to adjust the space between letters.

Here's my answer to a similar question - note that I use Ubuntu and Gnome 2, so I don't know if this will help in your specific case:

Re: Getting ALT key to work with Fedora 15 (GNOME 3)
Thanks for the reply.
I tried using two alternative desktops (LXDE and XFCE) and found that I have the same problem.
After some experimenting, I discovered that my problem is limited to two pieces of text in the file I have been working on. I can adjust the spacing between letters in a third piece of text.
If anyone can suggest what I might have done that is preventing me from adjusting the spaces between letters in these two pieces of text, I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Kerning, Shifting and Rotating Characters is not available in 'Flowed Text', only in regular text.
Convert the 'Flowed text' objects to regular text with menu 'Text > Convert to text' if you need to adjust the space between individual letters.
