I've created a few very basic SVG's for use in the Cricut machine. However, when the Cricut starts cutting it only cuts part of the object, or has added cuts. I'm drawing directly onto the screen using the pencil, bezier, or ink pen. Something appears to be making the nodes cut apart and the Cricut just stops.
Anyone have ideas of what to do to correct this?
I'm attempting to attach a very simple balloon drawing where the Cricut is adding multiple cuts to the balloons as an example. On this one I did use the circle tool to make the round and oval balloons.
Evidently I also need info on how to do the attachment correctly, it says that SVG files aren't allowed.
thanks

Hhm...I thought SVGs were allowed, but I got the same error message when I tried just now. So I'm not sure if that's a problem that needs to be fixed, or not. But meanwhile, you could upload to petaIMG (it's free) or any host suggested in this thread "Where can I upload my images?" I can definitely open files from petaIMG, but not necessarily any of the others.
That said, I'm not sure I will be able help you. But I'll be glad to have a look at your file. I know little to nothing about these cutters, to be honest. But I'm wondering if maybe they only recognize paths or nodes of a particular type. Maybe you have some overlapping paths without realizing it, and the cutter doesn't know which one to follow -- something like that?
Let us know when you have a file ready for us to look at

Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
thanks for the suggestion of PetaImg, will look into that. maybe it is a temp. bug that we can't do svg attachments.
What's interesting is that originally I used the polygon tool and made an elongated polygon that the Cricut wouldn't cut correctly, so I just went back and ensured I hadn't duplicated it (I hadn't), and then I adjusted the size, and this time it cut just fine as a larger object, go figure, but the original object still doesn't, so now am really stumped, happy that it cut this time around, but stumped, lol. My guesstimate theory is that SCAL is mis-reading the start node handle of the object.

Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
anyone know how to do an outline of the image you design in inkscape? I did a drawing of a dandelion seed using fat lines, I want it to outline the lines, when I import it to SCAL, skinny lines only show up - help please.
Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
meisen maybe Stroke to path is what you need. It's under the Path menu.
just hand over the chocolate and nobody gets hurt

Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
I am experiencing the same problem, but I am using Make-The-Cut to do the cutting on my cricut. When I import into MTC I am missing line segments, or the lines are joining to nodes that I didn't put there, etc.
Here is a screenshot of the image in Inkscape
* note: when I try to Edit->Select All nothing is selected, the only way to select anything is to drag and select, and then it will only select one object. Perhaps this will help? I can select either the circle, or the other object this way.
Here is a screenshot of the MTC import
Notice that the circle doesn't even appear? And the shape seems to be missing a node?
Also note: I used the tool for drawing the shape and the tool for drawing the circle. I know, obvious, but maybe it means something.
I have done nothing else to the image at this point. I have not added or removed anything, nor used any other tools.
Any help would be greatly beneficial.
Thanks
Gordon

Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
i have had a problem alot like that one try to union it and weld it - that may fix your problem
Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
Hi Gordread,
Gosh, it's hard to say what the problem with selection might be. Unless you have the circle on a different layer than the other shield part? I don't know why you would need to do that, and it would be hard to do by accident. Have you locked an object? Could you upload your SVG file into your next reply as an attachment? That way we can examine the file to try and figure out the problem.
The part that's confusing for me, is that your image does not fit inside the page border. Yet, most of the areas outside the page border ARE imported. There must be an option to import a selection, in the MTC software? If so, that's why you're not getting the circle, because is wasn't selected.
The missing node....did you happen to start drawing at the node that's missing, and then stop there when you finished? I'm thinking that perhaps the path was not closed, although no idea why that would cause the 2 end nodes to be ignored by the cutting software.
I don't know if someone familiar with the cutting software (like kmrs75) might have a solution? But for me, I'm gonna need to examine the SVG file. If you get an error message, when uploading, you'll have to start a new topic in the Help Using Inkscape, and include a link to this topic, and of course then upload the SVG file (I'm not sure if this forum allows uploads).

You were exactly right.
I had the big design set as a 'group' so a broke it apart, and used union to combine the two and it worked perfectly.
thanks a bunch.

Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
Ok. apparently I'm still missing something. I attempted the same steps that worked in my previous SVG, but it does not work for this one. I am attaching it. I don't think screen shots are really necessary, suffice it to say that when I import it to SCAL or MTK for cutting on the cricut, I get a mess of 'spaghetti' vectors.
Any thoughts? In the mean time I'm checking youtube for tutorials.

Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
Everything selects ok for me, in this file. There's no circle here though. I don't see anything that should be causing a problem.
Maybe you should try the same trick that krms75 suggested?

Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
I tried the same thing with this (using the Union to 'weld' it). I had to do it on each individual component. One at a time, and then I was able to import the whole picture successfully into both Make-the-cut and Sure-Cuts-a-Lot.
So, I can get it all to work as a work around. Though, I think this is perhaps something the developers need to investigate this as a problem.
Thank you for your help. I really appreciate the responses that I got.

Re: Drawing Issues Using the Cricut Cutter
Hi, ran across this plea for help whilst looking for help myself.
I downloaded your .svg file and opened in both Inkscape 0.47 and SCAL 2.013 and both files looked just fine. So I guess I cannot help. Nice file tho.
