Hi,
I'm using Inkscape Version (0.48.2) on my Mac. Lion Mac OS X 10.7.4. XQuartz 2.6.4 (xorg-server 1.10.6)
The problem:
circles, rectangles, stars etc. won't show up on the canvas when drawn. The only thing that's visible is the box around the selected objects. no fill and no strokes are drawn. Bézier-curves work fine.
does anyone have experienced similar issues?

Re: MacOS X Lion 10.7.4 won't show objects
Probably the opacity of the default style is '0' (zero). Draw a new shape, keep it selected, open menu 'Object > Fill and Stroke…' and verify that the opacity slider at the bottom of the dialog is set to '100'.
(Note: the path tools use their own style, whereas the shape tools use the 'Last used style' -> this is why you see paths drawn with pencil and pen tool, but not shapes like rectangles, circles, etc.)
