Automatic hyphenation in textbox (word-wrapping)

Postby himynameis » Thu Aug 16, 2018 4:36 pm

Good morning.

I wonder if/how it is possible to activate an automatic hyphenation (like

Code: Select all

hyphens: auto
in CSS) in textboxes containing continuous text.
I would need this for the german language however..

Reason is, if using justification there are lots of ugly spaces between words, if no hyphenation is applied and i really don't want to do that manually, because if the text has to be changed at some point, i would have to do it all over again.

Any ideas are much apreciated.

Flowed text is currently outside of the SVG standard in Inkscape - it doesn't even display in a browser. Even less is there this kind of CSS support for it currently, as far as I know.

If you want this, create your text in a desktop publishing program, like Scribus. It will offer lots and lots of other, text-related options. Scribus can export as SVG, don't know how well that works for texts, never tested it.
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

There probably is already a feature request for hyphenating Inkscape text. Let's see if I can find......

https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/171140

Feel free to add you support to that, by clicking "Does this bug affect you?" (above the yellow bar) Or if you have specific request which is not already covered, you can make a new comment, as well. If you'd like to follow the progress on this request, click " You are not directly subscribed to this bug's notifications." (in the column on the right) (after you click it, it changes to "you are subscribed to....)
