(Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
https://imgur.com/a/jKkSJ8W
I downloaded these fonts, and they appear in the folder, yet on inkscape they're nowhere to be found. I don't quite understand what the problem is, as this hasn't happened to me before, I recently downloaded 0.92.4, I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I'm grasping at straws to figure out what the problem could be. Could anyone help me? Thank you, I appreciate it .

Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
can you use the fonts in other programs? MSWord for example?
Your mind is what you think it is.
Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
If on Windows, please right-click on the font and install 'for all users' or 'as administrator'.
If on Linux, uninstall the snap package, and install the proper Inkscape version, e.g. from the ppa:
sudo snap remove inkscape
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:inkscape.dev/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install inkscape
If on Linux, uninstall the snap package, and install the proper Inkscape version, e.g. from the ppa:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:inkscape.dev/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install inkscape

Yes, it works there, but in Inkscape the fonts don't appear. Should I uninstall and reinstall inkscape?
Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
I tried uninstalling and reinstallng inkscape, yet the fonts still aren't there. Even on mspaint and word the fonts are there, but not for inkscape? What could be happening?

Should I uninstall it and reinstall the fonts? Because I don't seem to see any options to download for multiple users when I right click on the install button for the font. If I create another user, will it be available?
Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
Don't uninstall and reinstall Inkscape.
If you installed the font already, uninstall it.
When you try to install it again, look and see if there is such an option as "Install as Admin" (or "Administrator"). I don't think there is, but I don't have Windows 10, so I can't say for sure. If you find that option for installing the font, then use it.
If you don't find that option, as far as I know, you will have to create a new user account on the computer. You don't have to customize it (unless you want to), just create one. And you don't have to log in to it. Just creating it will give you another option for installing the font. I guess you might have to restart your computer after creating it, but I don't know for sure.
Then when you try to install the font, you will see a new option "Install for all users". If you use that, then you will see the font in Inkscape.
I do hope there is such an option as "Install as Admin", but I just don't know for sure. Will you let us know if you find it?

For some reason when I right click I still don't seem to see anything allowing me to run, what should I do? Thank you for taking the time out to help me like this

Sorry, the picture you uploaded doesn't show under that link for me. Right-click on the font file in Windows explorer to get those options to show up.

Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
I'm not convinced yet that there is some other way to make fonts available in Inkscape, except to install for other users. But that option isn't available unless there is more than one user on the computer.
As I said, I hope there is.
But I haven't seen it confirmed yet. While I've seen a few reports that adding another user creates the option to install for all users, and that solves the problem, for those reports.
Maybe another Windows 10 user can help us to confirm this?

The Admin option is there when the users option isn't. It's just the same functionality with a different name.

Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
I don't know about that. I don't have Windows 10. On Windows 7, there's just an install button. There's no such thing as "install as admin" and I'm not sure why Windows 10 would have it. If it does, then great. But I would need someone who has seen the menu to say for sure, before I start giving those instructions.
I mean, why would there be "Install" and "Install as admin"? What's the difference, if the user is using the admin account (the only account on the computer) to begin with?
The only instructions that I've seen reports that work, are to make the new user account, which creates the "install for all users" button, which makes the font available. As soon as I've seen some credible report that there is an "install as admin" option (and that it works) I'll start sharing it.

Yes, it works there, but in Inkscape the fonts don't appear. Should I uninstall and reinstall inkscape?
Hi.
If that means *some* fonts are appearing, some are not -that's most likely not a font installing issue but the problem of the font file.
Inkscape is nitpicking on fonts to be 100% compilant with the css standard.
Most probably the font needs a better description of names in the file.
Check this topic for a solution.
Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
Hello!
I'm having the same problem of fonts not showing. In my desk top (Win 7) the same version of Inkscape works just fine with the same fonts. In my laptop (Win 10) the fonts simply don't show in Inkscape (but are available in other programs like OpenOffice). I have tryed every instruction I found in this forum and nothing worked (no matter what I did I have no other option on the fonts except "install", no "Install as admin" that seems to have worked for other users).
@Mimi0100 have you solved your problem?
I'm stuck with my desktop when my lap top is a much better machine, can someone please help?

MarinaV, specifically this is that fix:
add the line
below the line
in the file "...\Inkscape\etc\fonts\fonts.conf"
It's sort of written in "developer-speak" so if you need it simplified more, let us know.
There's one other thing that might work, if that doesn't, but that would be the best one.
add the line
Code: Select all
<dir>~/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Fonts</dir>
below the line
Code: Select all
<dir>WINDOWSFONTDIR</dir>

I'm also having font issues, however, I wasn't able to edit the file as when I try to save the file again after making the changes it says that access was denied. Would you be able to advise me on how to fix this? Thanks a lot!
Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
if the "install for all users" option isn't showing up, make sure the font files are extracted from the zip archive or whatever container they may have downloaded in.
for example. if you download a zip file and open it in file explorer, then right-click on a font, you'll only see [open/cut/copy/delete/properties], and picking open will launch the font viewer with no install options. If you extract the the font file(s) (e.g. drag/drop to the desktop or a normal folder) and right-click on those, you should see the install for all users option.

Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
I’m trying to download this font https://github.com/geordanr/xwing-miniatures-font
It’s been updated with new icons and such, so I delete the previous and installed it again. Every program except for Inkscape has it working. Inkscape still diverts to the old one I had instead of the new one, even though the old one is uninstalled. My computer only gives me the Install button with the admin shield, but not the Install for All Users option. I updated my Inkscape to the newest version same result. Restarted my computer, same thing. I haven’t done the coding fix up above. Little lost with where to go for that.

Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
You must be on Windows... Windows doesn't delete fonts when it 'deletes' or 'updates' them. Somewhere on this forum there's a long thread about this... viewtopic.php?t=18770 - not sure if it's the only one.

Re: (Inkscape 0.92.4) Why don't my downloaded fonts show?
Hello, I'm using Windows 10 and I'm having issues with this as well. I had Inkscape .91 and then thought it was an issue with that so I uninstalled this and went to .92.4 and it's still an issue. I am the only user on my laptop so I'm set up as administrator. I don't have any action to "install as administrator" when I right-click. I tried going into the font.conf file and adding what was suggested and it gave me an error telling me I didn't have admin privileges when I tried to save it. I'm not exceptionally computer savvy but I can understand instructions. Any help would be very helpful.
