I am an enthusiastic new user of inkscape. This stuff is the future!
Anyway, my way to get started was not completely smooth. I have actually been looking for a forum like this for quite a while right now, and it took me a little to finally end up on this page. Admittedly, I did not take a pronounced effort in finding a forum, as I was expecting that this would be as easy as clicking on a link on the inkscape.org web page. Strangely, I cannot find a link to this forum on that web page. Am I missing something? If not, why is that? Only in the Dec 6 announcement there was a link to several forums, which is how I ended up on this site.
So my question is: why is there no link to this forum on inkscape.org? I suggest there should be one that is easy to find!

Link to this forum on inkscape.org?
Re: Link to this forum on inkscape.org?
InkscapeForum.com IS an unofficial Inkscape forum.
Re: Link to this forum on inkscape.org?
I suppose there is no "official" inkscape forum. Sounds sub-ideal. Thanks for the info anyway, hash.
I have now found that there is a link under Community/Discussions. That's probably as good as it gets under these circumstances.

There is? Oh, you mean the link to the wiki which lists various communities.
The official community discussion platform is the mailing list. Because I have a distate for e-mails I access the Inkscape mailing lists using Nabble which you might appreciate also.
Re: Link to this forum on inkscape.org?
Thought I'd reply with a link to my similar message a few months ago:
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=251
It contains some slightly different, helpful info.
Note the November 29, 2007 News item, maybe 3/4 down the Inkscape.org homepage. I know it's not the same as an entry in the navigation menu (along left side of screen near top), which would be more readily seen by folks like hasi and I. But it's a step in the right direction, imo
In addition to the several reasons already cited, another just occurred to me. Even if all the links that were posted in the 11-29 News item, were placed in the left-side nav menu, I'm guessing it would task the already tasked volunteer force, to keep them current. Maybe not so much so for forums, but sites with tutorials tend to come and go, move domains, etc. And especially the sample images that go along with tutorials seem to get moved, so that all a reader sees is the little red x. From this point of view, it seems to me to make more sense that it's in the News section.
Anyway, for whatever it's worth -- fyi

I totally agree with brynn: having a link to Top
Re: Link to this forum on inkscape.org?
Linking this site from the main menu of Inkscape.org would be a very large endorsement of a forum that Inkscape.org neither owns nor controls. As Inkscapes popularity increases more forums will appear (look at how many forums there are for GIMP or Blender). Inkscape.org can't be expected to link all of them from their menu.
Re: Link to this forum on inkscape.org?
Hmm... There is a link for inkscapeforums.com on inkscape.org navigational menu, just below the mailing list link, in the community section. I don't know when it is added, but I just visited the site today after long time and saw the link there.

Wow, that is great! I just went there to see it myself. Superb! I am sure many will use it.
