Draw figure from points?

Postby nesrevig » Thu Mar 06, 2014 11:19 pm

Hello

I have been searching a lot on the internet, to figure out how you can draw a figure by plotting some points. Is this really not possible in Inkscape?

eg. a square with the coordinates (0,0) (1,0) (0,1) (1,1) and then join them by the bezier tool.

Thanks

Hi.

That is exactly how it is done in inkscape by default -the use of lowercase z and m.
If you want to avoid using a notepad to edit the svg, then you can open the xml editor in inkscape (Shift+Ctrl+X), and set path's d parametres, like
m 0,0 1,0 0,1 -1,0 z for a 1/1 px sized square.

Hello,

Do you know SVG format?

A path is drawn using points, like this:
http://tutorials.jenkov.com/svg/path-el ... th-example

There are even extensions for drawing functions

http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... ionPlotter

Or maybe yo want to plot a set of x,y points. If this is the case I recomend you to study the information in the first link. The geometric inofrmation of the points to be drawn is achieved using the " d " attribute

P.D.: Maybe what you want is to something like is done in ACAD, where each point is inserted interactively. There is no similar option in Inkscape
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
2.- Please check here:

3.- If you manage to solve your problem, please post here your solution.

Hi

For plotting just a few data points the manual method outlined by Lazur URH is OK but for
larger data sets or repetitive tasks (like plotting a ship's GPS track daily) I use the excellent open source program VEUSZ; http://home.gna.org/veusz/
I have successfully plotted from CSV (Comma Separated Values) files containing millions of datapoints (plotting land contours for making maps).
Veusz will output to many different formats including SVG.

Good Luck.
