VirtualTablet, Samsung Tab with S-Pen & Inkscape
VirtualTablet, Samsung Tab with S-Pen & Inkscape
Hello everyone.
How to enable pressure sensitivity in Inkscape when I'm using VirtualTablet app on my PC and tablet? I didn't find any solution of this problem for both OS, but it works perfectly in Manga 5, Gimp (Linux and Windows), MS Paint, Photoshop CC.

A little past halfway down on this page, should tell you what you need. But I'm linking to the top, since the info in between might be helpful as well. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... ating.html

So, what is the next step?

Re: VirtualTablet, Samsung Tab with S-Pen & Inkscape
So your device isn't even listed? For me, it looks like this (using English interface for screenshots might make it easier for others

Yes, and dats the question

Re: VirtualTablet, Samsung Tab with S-Pen & Inkscape
Well, that's actually the 2nd question. But that's why you don't have pressure sensitivity -- you don't even have a tablet yet, as far as Inkscape knows.
I don't have a tablet, so I can't say for sure. But until Moini comes back (or someone with a tablet), I would suggest following the installation instructions, one more time. If it's not showing up in the Input Device dialog, then Inkscape doesn't recognize it. If it were me, I would think....hhmm, how does Inkscape recognize my regular mouse? And that might lead me to getting it to recognize the tablet.
I can tell you that there are some options in Inkscape Preferences > Input/Output > Input Devices. You could check on those. But I'm guessing installation is the main thing.

(me coming back won't help here - I really don't know about any 'Virtual Tablet apps'... :/ )

Oh, I thought "Virtual" was a brand name for a graphics tablet. So this is some kind of virtual tablet? Oh I see....it looks like a whole different kind of technology, that I'm not sure if Inkscape can support.
Do we even know if Inkscape supports this?

Hello
So, If I understand, you have a smart phone or tablet pc with an application that let you use the device as a "wacom" tablet to draw in your PC or laptop.
Interesting!
Can you show us which application is, and what OS are you using in your device and your PC (or laptop)?
edit: After a third reading, I think is:
http://www.sunnysidesoft.com/virtualtablet/
Anyway... if it's a relative new app, I doubt Inkscape could recognize it....
mmm... well .... have you tried to disconnect your mouse and use only your virtual table app??
edit 2: I f you say pressure sensitivity works in GIMP, please show the related configuration that GIMP uses for the device. It have to be something similar to the first screen shot

Re: VirtualTablet, Samsung Tab with S-Pen & Inkscape
You did understand it right =) It is
http://www.sunnysidesoft.com/virtualtablet/
Ohh, no, it works in Linux, not in Windows... GIMP recognized it as Network Tablet, but I've used another apps, called "GfxTablet".
Inkscape wouldn't enable pressure sensitivity on both OS.
So, I will be glad to know, how to enable it, no matter, which OS...

No, these options are not the same thing as you showed in the screenshot. They are in Inkscape Preferences (I think File menu, but maybe Edit menu -- they moved it with last new version, and now I can't remember where it is

But even if you check those boxes, I don't think it will cause the device to be recognized. It's worth trying though.
If pressure sensitivity works on Linux, in GIMP, there's a chance it could work in Inkscape on Linux. But you aren't giving us any clues, and clearly, at least so far, no one who is familiar with this program has replied. So we need to have more info, if you want us to try and help. Maybe if you tell us how you made it work in GIMP?
Can you make any parallel inferences (guesses) as to how you have it set up in GIMP, and apply those to Inkscape?
(And if you do figure it out, please tell us how, so we can help people having the same problem in the future.)

Re: VirtualTablet, Samsung Tab with S-Pen & Inkscape
Kind of I agree with Brynn here.
I can't give you specific help here. Even In Linux, I still don't use the command line (BASH) so much.
But your subject is interesting
I didn't know about GfxTablet. At some Point I have to try it! (procrastination)
My advice is try to contact with the developes and tell your problem: "Gfx Tablet works with Gimp but not with Inkscape", tell the characteristics of your system, and all information that may be relevant.
Please tell us if it's any update

Re: VirtualTablet, Samsung Tab with S-Pen & Inkscape
Hello
Another update,
I have just made a quick view to the posts, and I'm not sure if I have by-passed something but:
In Inkscape>> Preferences >> Input/Output >> there is a box that must be checked to tell Inkscape there is a new input hardawre in the system. After that you have to re-start

Re: VirtualTablet, Samsung Tab with S-Pen & Inkscape
Well, I mentioned those options earlier (twice actually). I don't know if checking those will tell Inkscape to look for new hardware or not. But as I said, it can't hurt to try.
My understanding of how that option is worded, is that it just enables pressure sensitivity. But it wouldn't be the first time Inkscape used confusing wording, if it actually tells Inkscape to look for new hardware. Maybe a translation has given you a clue though?
