Duplicate and clone SOLVED.

Postby tlaloc58 » Thu Dec 18, 2008 9:33 am

why when I duplicate something it automatically acts like if it was cloned? I create a duplicate, now I want to edit the gradient in the duplicate, not the original, but it seems no matter what I do, every time i do that it changes the original as well, it acts like if it was a clone. Worst of all, I click unlink clone to see if I solve the issue. Nothing happens, object acts like a permanent clone, forever and ever.

Is there a safe way just to copy and paste in inkscape?

SORRY. I found the error, inkscape saves every gradient, and if that gradient is modified, the rest of the gradients are too. So just pressed duplicate in the fill window and modify that gradient by itself. Once again sorry. Kinda new to this software.

Easy mistake to make. This is actually an option you can toggle in the preferences--File > Inkscape Preferences > Misc > Prevent sharing of gradient definitions. I actually though it was disabled by default on Inkscape 0.46.

Really dont understand the use of of that gradient saving; duplicating and cloning/instancing an object is not the same thing in my book.
Drived me crazy, even uninstalled Inskape, worked in Illustrator for a while. Luckily for Inscape developers, that one is real mess...

Actually, in 0.47 option to NOT share gradient definitions is on by default, but that doesnt help... Bug?
Sorry for duplcating (not cloning!) posts.
