I hope this isn't too ignorant--I am a near total computer illiterate--but I cannot get "Document Properties" to come up. I want to resize the canvas on my project and I can't.
I click "Document Properties." Nothing.
I press "Sift + Control + D." Nothing.

It was working fine until a 2-3 weeks ago and then--poof! It's gone and I am unable to get resize my project canvas.

I uninstalled and re-installed Inkscape thinking it was a problem with my computer. It works fine on my laptop but not on my desktop.

All the forum discussions I see on the topic are talking about people who have two screens and that's not my problem.

Help?

What version of Inkscape, OS & version?

You could try renaming your preferences.xml to preferences.old and let Inkscape create a default version. It's in your user profile.

Do you usually keep it floating, or docked? Even if you normally keep it floating, it could have accidentally become docked. (Well, I know I could accidentally dock something, although maybe that's just me )

Anyway, it might be opening docked, and minimized in the docking area. Here's a screenshot that I just made for someone else, regarding a different dialog. See in the red rectangle.



Sometimes the scrollbar gets accidentally dragged over, so that you don't see that. Slowly move your mouse over the right edge of the scrollbar. When you see that 2 sided arrow which indicates you can drag something, then drag it to the left. If it's there, click on the text.

If it's not there, it's probably opening off the screen. Look at the right edge of your screen after you try to open it. You might see a tiny strip of it showing. If so, you should be able to drag it back over. (This is a known bug.)

If none of that helps, and even though you said you don't use a dual monitor setup, it stilll might be opening entirely off the screen. If you're still striking out with mine and TD's suggestions, we could give you instructions for finding a lost dialog.
