Inkscape main wondow should take focus after drag'n drop

Postby Grobe » Fri May 13, 2016 12:45 am

Hi.

Have being working with a project with involves a lot of the following actions: Dragging an image file from Explorer into Inkscape main window.

I use dual monitor, so I have Inkscape on left side and Explorer (file view) on right monitor - I assume it would be the same if there was one big (wide) monitor instead.

Since I see both Inkscape window and Windows explorer simultaneously, I have no need to use Alt-Tab in order to drop the file into the correct target window.
As a consequense the problem goes - after each time I drop a file, my mind assume that Inkscape is the active window. So the images usually need to scale up/down and I need to zoom out in order to see the whole image.
Therefore I use Ctrl + the mouse scroll wheel to soom, and it turns out that the icon size in Windows Explorer change size instead of Inkscape zoom out - because the fact that Explorer is the active window, not Inkscape.

I think it is a good idea to post a feature request for this - can't see any reasons why not.

Mmmh. I'm not entirely sure if this can be done *within* the Inkscape program code... It could be that this can only be changed using settings for your window manager. Maybe you should ask if this is possible at all on the Inkscape user mailing list (developers are reading it, too), and depending on the answer, create a bug report / feature request. Also tell them which operating system you are using, and if you're on Linux, the name of your window manager.
Mailing lists are listed here: https://inkscape.org/mailing_lists.html
You will need to subscribe to it.
