Hello everyone,
This is my first post here. I've been using Inkscape on Linux Mint for a few years already, mostly to design presentations in connection with the Sozi plugin and Synfig.
The last 2 days I've started preparing a presentations for an Ecology class and did a lot of drawings for it.
Here ist the file:

My problem is with the image sequence of the lake on the right. I realized that even though most of the components were just copied and pasted, the colors did not match anymore (the soil's color become more bright etc). When I tried to change the fill colors suddenly everything started messing up. The different elements start overlapping and creating strange effects that I have never experience before inkscape....It must have something to do with the way I grouped the elements and how they were forced into one layer....When I try to change the layers, everything becomes even more messy...Could anyone please check if this problem occurs on your pc as well? Just try to select one image (e.g. the first successional stage) and try to move it into a different layer and you will see what I mean....
Any help with solving this issue would be very much appreciated!!!
Best regards,
Finn

Re: Need some help! Problems with project
Just as an example: When you select all elements of the sixth image ("Woodland Stage") ungroup them, then suddenly there are some very strange overlapping effects even though those elements have no transparency enabled .....
Re: Need some help! Problems with project
I'm pretty sure all of that is being caused by the blending mode on the layer Arrows, which is set to Screen. I don't understand technically how the blending modes work, but it blends the colors of everything in that layer, with the colors in other layers, wherever the colors overlap.
That's why when you move an object from an upper layer to a lower layer, it looks like it was moved above the layer, because the blending mode created a different color where they overlap.
I would guess it was set accidentally.
Anyway, you can just set it back to Normal, and all or at least most of those problems should go away.

Re: Need some help! Problems with project
Thanks very much for your reply!
I've been trying to fix the issue and in the end this helped me: I used the svgcleaner tool, which simply removed all layers from the file and forced everything in one layer. Then I assigned the layers new and everything worked. Also, the file decreased in size by about one third....
Thanks again! The blending mode might have actually caused the problems in the first place...

Re: Need some help! Problems with project
Do you mean that when you changed the blending more back to normal, it did not solve the problems?
What made you think an svg cleaner tool would solve this problem? Also, what svg cleaner tool?

Re: Need some help! Problems with project
Oh, I'm afraid I can't understand you very well.
You should be able to drag a JPG image in SVG file. Did you make the SVG file? Or did you download it from somewhere?
If you downloaded it, the image might be in a Group. Try to select with Selection tool and click Object menu > Ungroup. Maybe need to Ungroup a few times.
Watch the Status Bar at the bottom of the window, and it will give you hints and clues about what is happening. If you select something, and it says "Group of 3 paths" or something like that, then you can try to Ungroup. If it says "Image: 70 X 30...." it means you have selected the JPG.
If that doesn't work, can you share the SVG file with us, so we can see it ourselves. This is how we can avoid translating problems.
Or if you speak German, maybe Moini will be around soon, and can help in German. I'm only guessing because of your name. But maybe it is some other language.

Yep, I'm here.
Werner, worum geht's?
