Hi,

I teach inkscape as a computer class. After one group change, say geometry of new objects (stars, rectangles) and close the program, another students have problems figuring out why their new created stars look so strange. Any idea how to protect inkscape from remembering the geometry settings of tools? This would be useful in mutli-user environments. I know I can write external scripts to remove configs from inkscape directory, but would prefer an option in preferences.

Yes.
Please open Inkscape Preferences > Tools > Shapes > Rectangle. Then choose "This tool's own style". Now if you will create a rectangle, and make it look like you want a rectangle to look always, then you can click the bar that says "Take from selection". And that should do it! Now newly created rectangles will always look how you want. Be sure to do this for every shape and every tool.

Here are a couple of other suggestions:

• Let students download their own copies of Inkscape, since it's, ah...free!
• Teach them how to make the changes themselves

Then they can further personalize preferences!

There is an icon on the Star toolbar that looks like broom, when you click it it restores the tool defaults Not all tools have it but it might be useful in your case.

Thank you for the answers. The idea with setting "always use this style as default" for the tool doesn't work for geometry. Just select the star, ctrl+shift+x and note what constitutes "style" and where "rounded / sides / randomized" and the rest are - they are not affected by the "style" setting. The other hint with reseting with small brush - yes I know but, still I would be more happy to have settings reset after inkscape is restarted. I will post a feature request. Thank you guys.
