Hi,
please help me to view gradient editor.
When I click "Edit..." in "Fill and stroke" panel, nothing happens, but main windows gets unfocused. I can't see or click that window.
I am using double monitor setup in my Windows 7, but that is currently off. This happened again when I opened completely new file.
Thank you in advance.
Can't see gradient editor
Re: Can't see gradient editor
Before I try and answer, I want to be sure I understand the problem.
You click Edit to open Gradient Editor, but no editor appears. At the same time the main Inkscape window (canvas, tools, etc) gets unfocused. Next you say you can't see or click that window -- which window can't you see or click, the main Inkscape window or the Gradient editor window?
By unfocused, I usually think of a window being....sort of grayed out. I can still see it, but if I click on it, it becomes active (focussed).
What Inkscape version and operating system? In older versions, sometimes the dialog would become hidden behind the main window, when the main window was activated.
I'm not familiar with double monitor setups. I suspect it could possibly be contributing to this problem, even though only one monitor is on. But again, I'm not really familiar. Are there any special settings (in Inkscape Preferences) that you've had to make, to use the double monitor? If so, you could try disabling that. Otherwise, I'm not sure
There's also the possibility it's a bug, and some one else will comment on that, if so. (need to know version and os, please)
The Gradient Editor is one of the few dialogs which can't be docked. Normally, docking the dialogs can prevent them from "getting lost", but since this one is not dockable, that won't be a solution in this case.

Re: Can't see gradient editor
Hi, I've got
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (up to date, I think)
Inkscape 0.48
No special settings, almost clean install.
Yes by unfocused I mean "like another windows has just been clicked on"
I've made some other small Inkscape projescts meanwhile, but this error still appears.
I don't use Inkscape on double monitor setup (only notebook display). I've not made any changes in Inkscape involving double monitoring.

Re: Can't see gradient editor
This is because the editor window is out of the screen. What you are going to want to do is try to open the editor, then go to trace bitmap(any dialog box). Click the minimize button. Now all of inks cape should be minimized. Down on the left there will be two total bars, grab the gradient one and bring it to the top of windows 7. Let it maximize. Now you can pull it of to where you want it

Welcome to the forum!
In case sofer is still looking for a solution, I think joedailey means "two title bars" instead or "two total bars" I haven't heard of the gradient editor opening somewhere off the screen, but I guess it could happen. I hope this fixes the problem

Re: Can't see gradient editor
Thanks, and thanks for that catch, I just had this problem because I am temporarily using a smaller monitor.
Re: Can't see gradient editor
Thanks to joedailey, it worked.
This happens to me when i come back from work, where i use two monitors, to home where im only on my laptop screen.

Re: Can't see gradient editor
I ran into the same problem. The described solution got me around it.
FYI: I believe what got me into this state in the first place, was that I usually run Inskcape on a multi-monitor setup on my laptop. Today, I was unplugged from the dock, thus using a single [laptop] monitor. Also, my "main" monitor when connected to my dock is much larger than my current "main" laptop screen. So, I think it was the case where Inkscape somehow cached/configured/stored the fact that the gradient window was last displayed to a screen location which does not exist in my current setup.
I am going to file a bug.

Welcome bkgoodman!
That sounds like a good idea. Will you post a link to the report here, after you make it? Thanks
