So after modifying it by "stretching" it taller and then clicking "put on path" it goes on the path ,but reverts back to its original shape. Can someone please tell me how to
resolve this problem.

1) There's already a bug report about this missing feature - marked as 'Won't Fix':

2) I just verified that you can use both
- 'Effects/Extensions > Generate from Path… > Pattern Along Path'
- 'Path > Path Effect Editor… > Pattern Along Path'
to put text converted to path on a circle, keeping its previously applied vertical stretching transformation.
