How to design a Turbo blade/fan

Postby SaturnusDJ » Sat Mar 25, 2017 4:42 am

I am designing a turbo logo which will look quite like this one:

Question: What's the best way to design the 'fan?'
It exists of 6 identical blades.

Currently I have a circle and I have put two white 6-pointed stars on top of it to simulate the space between the blades. Shaping of these stars to achieve the above design is a bit painful.

Is there a better approach?

You could use:

- tiled clones (overkill, imho)

- the rotate copies LPE (wonderful! but not documented, watch youtube video and read release notes: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... ate_copies)

- simple rotation of identical objects (so, create 1 fan blade, move its rotation center to the center of the circle, and rotate in 15° (times 4) steps).
For this, you need to click on an object a second time with the selection tool to enter rotation mode. Then you can grab the rotation center and move it to a different place (preferably snap it to that place). Then you can duplicate the blade (Ctrl+D), or clone it (Alt+D, if you might still change the original), and rotate it with the handles while holding Ctrl down to get 15° steps.
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Hey guys thanks for the input. I started working on a design using the 'rotated copies.' Really nice. The only thing missing in rotated copies is that gradient is spread over all copies and not rendered n-times.

Appreciation for the tutorial tylerdurden. A nice way to learn. I assume your nick is just a nick or ..? ;)
