Setting the Bitmap Editor

Surprisingly, popular bitmap editors such as PhotoShop and Paint.Net are not listed in the drop down list of bitmap editors in the Preferences list. A search on this forum of "bitmap editor" didn't include a fix for this. Is there a way to set the default bitmap editor for Inkscape to either Paint.Net or PhotoShop?

The context menu command for linked/embedded bitmap images ('Edit Externally...') is not fully supported by Inkscape on Windows platforms (and only partially for Inkscape users on Mac OS X):

Bug #262617 in Inkscape: “Failed to execute helper program”
