Hi,
I just downloaded Inkscape 0.46 a few days ago and am still very excited.
Great work people. This is has to be one of the best open source graphics program out there.
I've been playing around with tools which is exciting but the 'Tiled Clones'' tool does not respond
consistently. I strongly suspect there's a bug but i can't be sure. Since i'm practically a newbie,
chances are that i simply haven't learned to use it properly.
So, i was hoping you could point me to a detailed guide of how the tool works or perhaps, just
give a small explanation especially of the shift option.
As I understand it, creating tiled clones with a set rotation, 1 column, multiple rows, with the
shift x, shift y and exponent set to 0 (zero, for both column and rows) should produce a circular shape.
Results have not been consistent though. Any tip would really be helpful.
Thanks and keep up the great work!!!!!

Using Creating Tiled Clones
Re: Using Creating Tiled Clones
Rotation is done with respect to the rotation center that is usually in the center of the object can be moved elsewhere.
To create clones that look as if arranged on a circle you should drag the rotation center of the original object to where you want the "circle" center to be, create 1 row and many columns, set Shift X per Column to -100 (because Inkscape places tiled clones one next to the other as default, but in this case we want them one on top of another and then just rotate), set rotation per column to a desired angle.
btw did you confuse the versions? The 0.47 is the current one and 0.48 will be out soon.

Re: Using Creating Tiled Clones
Hi thanks,
I should have guessed setting a rotation center is necessary. Really helpful... will try this soon. And... i have version 0.47. Can't wait for 0.48. Thanks a million.....

Re: Using Creating Tiled Clones
Hi,
Tried your suggestion and made good progress.
I think what worked best was to keep all shift and exponent values at zero (which means 'Place clones on top of each other')
and then set an angle of rotation and center of rotation.
The thing is that multiple runs using the 'remove' tool do not yield consistent results. But, I'll keep at it.
Thanks a lot and please, let me know what you think.

Re: Using Creating Tiled Clones
and by the way..... I've read your tutorials and they are very helpful.
the instability issue is quite serious though. I'm hoping 0.48 improve on this and
maybe have a recovery function.
Thanks again
