Welcome to InkscapeForum!

When you say "art/symbols clip art", are you referring to anything specific? Or are you asking in general? In general, the simple answer is that not all browsers are capable of displaying all SVG images. Most modern browsers will display most SVGs, except for IE pre 9 (IE9 is the first IE to display SVG, but to my understanding, is not strong support). There are other reasons besides that though. I know I've read somewhere, but at the moment, can't remember

But also at the moment, I'm still not sure what you're referring to. Maybe Inkscape Glyphs? Maybe Open Clipart Library? What "shared librarys"?

Brynn,

Thanks for your reply. I'll rephrase the question. Running firefox 13. I link here http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Galleries. The resulting links take me to wiki type sites with a gallery of images. They say the images are SVG but you cant download them as SVG. Only right click to save as PNG format. I don't understand how to get the SVG format.

Thanks

Ooohh :D
Those are shared, only in the sense that you can look at them. You can't download all of them. That's basically a list of people or websites who have a collection of work done with Inkscape, to show what inkscape can do. Not all of them offer the images for download. You should check the terms for each site.

OCL (Open Clipart Library) is one where most or all of the images are offered for use by others under public domain license. To my knowledge, all the OCL files are available as SVG for download. Flickr is more of an image host -- some artists offer their work for others to use, either free, or for purchase, and some of them just are displaying their work. As for the others, I have no idea. I see some on the list who I'm pretty sure don't intend for others to use their work.

If any image is only shown as PNG, I would say that's a good indication that they don't intend the image to be used by others. I guess you could ask the individual sites/artists about them, if you don't find any SVG files offered. Perhaps they would offer to send you the SVG file, or perhaps they would say it's copyrighted but you can purchase it. Or perhaps they would say no.

Thanks for your reply brynn.

I'm so MAD at inkscapes forum software. I wrote this long reply only to lose it because I was automaticaly logged out when I submitted my post. Yes I logged in before I started. I'll rewrite my post after I cool down.

There have been a few server glitches lately. So I apologize for that. You might want to make sure you're accepting cookies, just to be safe.

It probably doesn't matter to you, at the moment, but I thought I'd share that I've made it a habit, over the years, to copy my messages right before I post them. Besides server issues, there could be a few different reasons to lose a message. So it just takes Ctrl + A and then Ctrl + C to preserve my sanity :D
