Image cuts a ton over top of each other????

Postby Simpsons1201 » Sat Feb 12, 2011 5:35 am

Hi all! First post here...

I am using inkscape with signcut and I keep running into a problem I can't figure out.

I have an image(basically a coloring book image), I open it in inkscape, "trace bitmap", it looks great....I save as .eps and open it in signcut, and it cuts, and cuts, and cuts, and cuts the same image over top itself. It takes forever.

I guess my question is....How do I simplify the nodes to were it just cuts one outline? If that makes any sense at all!

Thanks.

did you do a multi trace? you may have a whole bunch of greys that are all overlapping shapes getting output, and its cutting each one in turn.
try scanning it without using multiple traces.

Oh wow! I am new, so how do I know if I did a multi trace? And how do I turn it off?

Welcome Simpsons1201! Image
how do I know if I did a multi trace? And how do I turn it off?

I believe it is abundantly clear in the Trace Bitmap dialog.

Edit -- I apologize for snippy response. I had confused you with someone else (who I believed was a potential spammer). Please follow druban's and llog's instructions in their following replies. And once again, my apologies

In the trace bitmap dialog, the bottom section makes multiple paths, the number of which is specified in the box. the min is 2. you prob should uncheck 'stack scans' and check 'remove background'.
Your mind is what you think it is.

I don't know much about how cutters work, but I suspect the issue is that what looks like a single line in your trace is actually a closed shape traced around the line. Thus if the cutter starts at node 1 and goes in order it will go over the same line at least twice, possibly more depending on how complex the line art is.
