Transparent background:not kept when pasted in a new file

Postby deliaprilis » Sat Sep 10, 2011 9:10 pm

Hello! :)
I have a new problem but this time dealing with transparencies.

As an example, I have a composition of 3 elements in a document which has transparent background. Doesn't matter if I save this file or not, but if I select all the elements and try to copy-duplicate-clone... and paste it in a new document with a colored background, or paste it in a transparent background containing an element which is colored... what happens is that the composition is pasted, but with an annoying white background surrounding the elements. I hope you can see what I mean here through this link:

My question is: is there any possibility of pasting the composition without having that white color? It's frustrating when you want to have a new composition ( with the background of your election ) containing files you have already saved ( with transparent background ) but there's white in it.

Thank you.

Please, please, to everyone new here and asking such questions: do provide minimal information about your OS (and Inkscape version) - it really helps those trying to help you without them needing to resort to guessing or searching for any additional clues in e.g. provided screenshots).

From the screenshot, I can tell you are using Inkscape on a Mac. Probably this is your first encounter with the most frequent FAQ with regard to using Inkscape on that OS:

Please change the X11 preferences for the pasteboard as described in this topic (includes a screenshot of the preferences pane): Re: Mac Snow Leopard?
(The issue is due to a conflict between X11 and Inkscape with regard to clipboard handling, and needs to be addressed in X11/Xquartz foremost - it can affects other applications like e.g. fontforge too).

Thank you so much for helping me with this. And so sorry about not having provided the OS info and the Inkscape version I'm using ( Mac OS Lion and 0.48.2 Inkscape ) :-)
