I just switched to Ubuntu several weeks ago. So far so good. I had Inkscape and Corel Draw on my XP Boot.
I'd like to stay in Linux as much as I can. I have a few CDR files I would like to use in Inkscape. I noticed that it opens no problem but there are some layers or details missing that show fine in Corel. Any idea how to fix this or have it show what's missing?
Tried opening Corel Draw CDR file and missing detail. Ubuntu
Re: Tried opening Corel Draw CDR file and missing detail. Ub
My comic strip, "The Greys", started back in 1994 using Corel Draw. When we decided to resurrect it as a webcomic in 2009 we found that the only way to get a reasonable import of our old, old Corel files into Inkscape was actually to load them in to Illustrator then export as another format from there (I think we went straight to SVG, but it was some time ago). Even then, the resultant files required a lot of cleaning up (previously shared gradients being copied for each and every object being a particular time-waster).
So the answer might simply be to try exporting from Corel Draw in as many formats as you can, and try importing each of them - not only into Inkscape but also into any other appropriate software you may have access to - to try to export a format that Inkscape will work with.
All that said, providing a little more information about the version of Corel Draw, and perhaps even supplying one of the files, might allow someone here to give you some more specific help.

Inkscape uses an external tool - UniConvertor - for CDR support. Its latest release (UniConvertor 1.1.5) is somewhat dated and supports only a limited set of features from CorelDraw files. UniConvertor and sK1 are currently undergoing a complete rewrite - you'll either have to be patient and wait until UniConvertor 2.0 is out. Or you might for example try the latest LibreOffice 3.6 which has new native support for CDR files based on libcdr [1].
[1] Note: I haven't tested CDR support of LO 3.6 myself, nor investigated how to proceed from there to get the drawing into a format suitable for Inkscape.
