Hi, all...
I'm trying to save my inkscape creation as a PNG file, and it needs a transparent background (web graphic). And yet when I save as PNG, it stubbornly saves my picture with a white background.
All the forum threads (etc) that I've read suggest that Inkscape will automatically save PNG files with transparent backgrounds. So apparently I'm doing something wrong - any ideas what it might be? I've tinkered with "Document Preferences", but it shows the checkered background colour I would have expected... but it still won't save with transparency.
One last thought... is "Cairo PNG" some strange png variation that doesn't support transparency? Only I've never heard PNGs called tha before, and it's my only PNG save-option.
PNG transparency...? Really?
Re: PNG transparency...? Really?
Use 'File > Export Bitmap…', that keeps the transparent background.
Save as 'Cairo PNG (*.png)' uses a different export function (always exports the page without the options for drawing or selection and adds a white background). This routine is mainly for testing Cairo-based export.

Aha! Thank you very much - I'd been beating my head against the wall trying to figure that out.
