i use inkscape to create flyers for my company....upto now i have printed straight from the default size of "a4"
however i need to design and print some "a5" flyers.....
how do i do this?, when i press the "new" button there is no a5/a6 size.

Go to File > Document Properties (or Ctrl + Shift + D) and you can change it from there.There might be an A5 option under page size but if not, and you know you size in px/cm/mm you can write it in manually.

Are you printing directly to an A5 sheet? or are you planning to print to A4 and run the print 2 down and cut to A5?
Only asking because that would make a difference the first way you need to change your prefs like the guy said above

Oddly, although you can't create a "New" A5 document, but you can set page size A5 in Document properties:
Start New Document of Any Size.
Click "Document Properties" Button (rightmost of top icon row)
Select A5.
Start New Document of Any Size.
Click "Document Properties" Button (rightmost of top icon row)
Select A5.
