Help with adding text

Postby CJPG7 » Wed Mar 19, 2014 10:29 pm

This is driving me nuts, so I hope someone can help me with this, what appears to be a simple task.

I have created a file which has one embedded image on top of another. What I want to do is to add some text onto the second image (the top image).

I have managed to do this in the past without changing any settings, that I remember. However, when I try and type text all I get is a clear box, which gets larger the more I type, but no characters are visible.

Looking at the bottom left hand corner of the window. the fill window shows black, and the stroke shows none. If I then go into the stroke paint tab and choose 'Flat colour' and choose black, the stroke window changes to black. However, when I start to type, the stroke window changes to 'none' again.

All i want to to is type some text onto my image, and I have successfully done this lots of times in the past. What am I doing wrong?

Hi.

The text you enter are there but it's not displayed.
What about opacity?
Check the "O" in the status field (lower left corner). If set to 0 (zero) your text will be "invisible" like you describe.

Image

If this setting is 100 and the text does not display check your layer (Shift + Ctrl + L) setting and make sure the layer opacity is set to 100%.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply. Yes, the opacity is set to 100%. Strangely enough, the text has just started working again after I closed Inkscape down and re=opened it. It's quite bizarre!

Thanks once again.

I don't believe it! It's happened again. I've rebooted the computer, gone back into the file and when I try and type a character it produces a clear box. I can produce a nice black character on the bottom image, but not on the top one. However, it was working fine on both images an hour ago!

If I try and cut and paste a black character from another part of the document, when I paste it onto the top image it produces a clear box.
I've not changed any settings.

GRRRRRRRR!
