I'm having a strange issue in that there is something printing that I cannot see at all on the screen. I've gone over the picture numerous times to find the splotch, but can't get to it. I don't have layers, so nothing is hidden. Also, it's not printing some of the vector art in the picture. Weird! Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Printing invisible stuff and not printing visible
Re: Printing invisible stuff and not printing visible
Are you printing a file created with Inkscape or was it (in parts) created by another application?
A known issue -- exports to PDF/PS/EPS include unexpected objects -- is with <symbol>s [1]. Note that those are not created by Inkscape: while Inkscape renders them correctly on-canvas and in bitmap export, apparently the cairo-based export gets it wrong (printing uses similar export routines: the file is sent as Postscript (or PDF) to the printer or its driver).

Re: Printing invisible stuff and not printing visible
I exported a file to svg from Adobe Illustrator. I can see the things I'm not supposed to when I save it as a png. Unfortunately the png flattened everything so I can't change it. I'll try cutting and pasting all the elements into a new doc. I don't know what to do about the elements that aren't printing though.
Thx.

Do not save as 'Cairo PNG, use 'File > Export bitmap… for high-quality PNG export from Inkscape.alliance wrote:I can see the things I'm not supposed to when I save it as a png.
Save as 'Cairo PNG' was used to test cairo-based export formats, has limited SVG support (e.g. no filter effeects), and is likley to expose the same errors as the other cairo-based export formats (PDF/PS/EPS)
Re: Printing invisible stuff and not printing visible
Not likely to work well (iirc the symbols will not get transferred to the new doc, and paste clones without original which are not rendered as long as the original symbols they reference are not added too...) -- can you attach the original SVG file here?alliance wrote:I'll try cutting and pasting all the elements into a new doc. Re: Printing invisible stuff and not printing visible
Here's another suggestion: Maybe you can open the png file in Gimp and use the healing or cloning tool, bandaid, brush, etc. to get rid of the unwanted piece (I've had to do that a few times), it works well.
