Now at home without, I've been looking for an affordable program, and found it!
Question. I did a search, hope I didn't overlook a answer. Can text be converted to a raster image?

Welcome to the forum!
Any object or a group of objects can be copied into a bitmap using the Make a Bitmap Copy option (Alt + B). You can control its dpi under Inkscape Preferences (Shift + Ctrl + P) > Bitmaps.
You can always export the drawing or any part of the drawing with Export Bitmap option (Shift + Ctrl + E).
