Can Inkscape create Beveled Shapes?

Postby Michael Tumey » Sat Jul 06, 2013 7:07 am

Hello (first post). I am a long time user of vector drawing applications, though not Inkscape, and I am a professional fantasy cartographer (that is I create maps for RPG game publishers). I am about to start a Kickstarter to fund the creation of a 248 page Map Tutorials Guide, called 25 Quick & Dirty Map Tutorials - designed to apply to most standard graphics applications, including both image editors like Photoshop, GIMP, Paintshop Pro, and vector applications like Inkscape, CorelDraw, Illustrator, Xara Photo & Graphic Designer. The techniques can be applied to all these software (or so I believe) using different tools to accomplish the tutorial steps.

My question involves what Inkscape is capable of or not for several specific functions? Can Inkscape create beveled shapes? If so, what kind of bevels can it create and how large can bevels be made?

I am attaching an image of several beveled shapes, with their bevel types listed and an example of an extremely beveled shape - these were created in Xara Photo & Graphic Designer, the primary design application, I use, and am using to create the tutorials guide. Can these be duplicated in Inkscape, and if so, what steps/tools are necessary to accomplish them?

Welcome aboard,

answered it in your other topic.

Personally I wouldn't use inkscape for such things with the current possibilities.
I have my thoughts on a totally different approach, yet I don't have a tehnical experience of doing it.

For such bevels I would use gimp where you can create rounded bevels of any size, any light direction.

I got it thanks. I posted the question here, not realizing I needed moderation for a first post. While awaiting moderation, I realized that posting this question to the Tutorials board was the wrong place, and reposted my question in general discussion (then both posts passed moderation - and here we are.)
