Help w/Snap/Guides within an object?

Postby 222fbj » Mon Sep 30, 2013 4:30 pm

I have a drawing with 4 chess boards and corresponding pieces - SVG Image
I need a snap/guide system so I can easily reposition the pieces on each board and have them centered in each square.

The document is letter sized but I plan to create other versions on larger paper, with more than 4 boards, and with larger/resized boards.
Can snap/guides be associeated with the chess board object, rather than the document?
Is it possible to create one 'chess board + pieces object' that will retain the snap/guide/align features.....even if copy/pasted it into a new document and/or resized?

Or, maybe there is a simpler/better way to solve this problem? Thanks for any suggestions!

btw - Chess Diagram tools exist but they do not output Vector.

Hi.

Simply add a transparent square to each figure and group them together, then
you can use the snap nodes to cusp nodes feature and place them in right position easily.

Edit: oh I forgot to mention to use the align and distribute panel (Ctrl+Shift+A) to position the figures right in the centre of the squares.
