Hello,
I'm new so still struggling a lot. But i want to cut out some picture around a tyre.
I thought i could put an attachment to show it. But tit says my attachment is too large? It's a .svg file?
I try to copy and paste but that doesn't work.
Anyone?
Thanks!
Cutting out schapes.
Re: Cutting out schapes.
Sometimes if you zip the file, it will be accepted. Or you could use file sharing such as dropbox, or image host such as https://imgh.us.
I can't quite imagine what you mean by cutting out around a tire. Do you mean that you want the photo to be inside of a circle? Or shaped like a circle?

Re: Cutting out schapes.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: Cutting out schapes.
Hi brynn,
Can you see it here?
http://imgh.us/Question_2.png
What i want is to have the tyre and what's inside of the tyre as an image. Which means that the corners more or less of the image which come out of the tyre should be removed.
The strange thing is that i want to change the object to a path, but it doesn't do that. It says can't change into path. As i was thinking of using Path>Difference would do it, no?
Thank you.

Re: Cutting out schapes.
@Bossit, if you follow the instructions of @tylerdurden's link, you should get the following result if I understand your goal correctly...
1. Draw a circle which has about the outer size of the tyre
2. place it on top of the image
3. Select both image and circle
4. Menu ¦ Object ¦ Clip ¦ Set
Done!
If you have the tyre as a path you could do it even more precise with all the little gaps.

Re: Cutting out schapes.
Hi theozh,
I took the tyre away and used a circle like you mentioned. Than it works. I can put the tyre in the picture than and group it to make it one i guess, right?
The only strange thing is that if i want to do it straight it doesn't work? If i click on the tyre, it says group of 1 object. Than i try to change it into a path but it says, no objects to convert to path in the selection? I'm just wondering why it doesn't do that?
Anyway, i managed now to do what i want!
Thank you guys, for your help and responding quickly!!

Re: Cutting out schapes.
Hi @Bossit, if you ungroup your tyre, what is it then? Maybe already path...something else...?

Re: Cutting out schapes.
Be sure to keep an eye on the status bar. If you select the tire, and it says group of 41, that means you have 1 object = 1 group. If you ungroup it, you can select one of the blocks and look to see what the status bar says about it. I'm guessing it's either going to be a path or a rectangle.
You can ungroup everything and convert to paths, or you can use Object to Path on a group, and change everything in the group to a path -- except for the photo. The photo can never be converted to paths. And that's probably what you have selected, when it says "no objects to convert". (Well actually, it could be, sort of - but that's kind of another story.)
I'm not sure what you're asking, when you say "....do it straight...." Do you mean use a rectangle or square instead of circle?

Re: Cutting out schapes.
I believe the OP is meaning, if they try to use the tire object directly as the clipping path, which won't work, even with the tire converted to a single path. (Unless they want the image in the sidewall of the tire, rather than the opening where a wheel would be. Without the center opening, then yes.)

To achieve the OP's goal it takes a circle clipping object, the pic, and the tire.

Re: Cutting out schapes.
Hey guys,
@brynn: It's true what you say, about the first part you write of what a groups is. But when the tyre is 1 group, as i want it to be, than when selected it doesn't work to convert that into a path.
The photo is a bitmap trace, maybe that's why it doesn't convert?
@tylerdurden: Excuse me but who is OP? Operator?
That's true that it doesn't work when i tried to use the tyre as clipping path. It only gave me the 1st image of the 3 here.
But it works as one of you mentioned before. And as tylerdurden says here again. Circle clipping and than put the tyre on it.
Thank you very much for everyone's help!!
Much appreciated!!
