When importing a svg graphics made in inkscape into another (new) drawing, the object(s) get imported ok and selected but can't be manipulated, moved or pushed to another layer.
The object seems to reside on a "root" layer. Not on the currenty active layer as expected.
And if selection of imported graphics is lost, no action seems being able to select them again.
Should't one be able to do "clipart" that can be loaded into different drawings for reuse?
...or is there some non-windows-user-friendly-but-pretty-obvious-when-you-know-it method to do it correctly?
Searched the web and some tutorials / inkscape help.
Using Inkscape 0.45.1
[solved] Importing clipart into an existing drawing
Re: Importing clipart into an existing drawing
If you clipart is vector then the easiest method is copy and paste into your new drawing. If it seems as though you cannot do anything to it then you will need to do: Object>Ungroup (Shft+Ctrl+G). You may need to do this more than once to get the clipart totally ungrouped.
Me personally what I do so that I have the original still intact is to duplicate the clipart and then ungroup the duplicate thereby leaving the original intact. That way when you start manipulating the clipart you are working on a copy instead of the original.

Duh!
First. Thanks to capnhud for giving me a clue.
Maybe i should get a thorough checkup..
Copy paste between documents don't work. But import works as stated before.
The only thing i didn't think about earlier was the possibility of the layer(s) in the imported file being locked.
Apparently the locked layer property gets imported too and locked clipart can't be moved, selected or placed on another layer.
Pretty obvious.. Now

Copy and paste between documents only works if both inkscapes open are the same instance. Ie open one however you want, then open the second using the open dialog of the first.
