Sorry...I'm sure there is an overly-simplistic answer to this thread but I'm new to this and can't figure it out.
I created a path with nodes and handles and then connected the two corner (end) nodes. Now, I don't like the path being connected by the two end nodes and want to get rid of that connection. What is the best way to do this?
I've tried all of the commands in the node tools, including the "break path at selected nodes" tool, and I've read the manual relating to paths and nodes. I believe I'm having difficulty because the nodes are the corner nodes (diamond-shaped).
(You won't offend me if you talk to me as you would a 5 year old.)
Disconnecting path between corner nodes
Re: Disconnecting path between corner nodes
Well, the simplest thing would be Undo. But I'm guessing you've done a bunch of work since then, and don't want to undo everything, and then do it all again.
Select the entire path, then select that new segment (now the nodes on both ends of that segment shoudl be highlighted). Then click the "Split path between two non-endpoint nodes" button, which is the 5th icon from the left on the Node tool control bar.
PS - Don't feel bad. It took me forever to figure it out. To me the language used in the tool tip is confusing. I kept thinking "split" must mean to create two diverging paths from one! If it had said "Break" the path between 2 nodes, it would have made more sense to me, as a new user. But I guess there's probably some technical explanation why it was made to say "split"

Re: Disconnecting path between corner nodes
Thanks Brynn for your reply...but unfortunately I just tried that and it didn't work (I assume because the two nodes are end nodes???
Can you think of another way to break this path? I agree with you completely about the wording of the tools--I thought perhaps it was a proprietary thing.

Re: Disconnecting path between corner nodes
If the 2 nodes ARE end nodes, that means they are not connected and that the path IS broken.
Maybe an illustration is in order. Could you upload either your image, or a simplified example of what you have and what you're trying to do?

If they are actually end nodes, and you've just got two end nodes on the same spot, then all you've got to do is use the node tool, click on the spot (not drag-select), and drag the selected node somewhere else. You've got a 50% chance of moving the one you didn't want to, but c'est la vie.
Re: Disconnecting path between corner nodes
Ah, good point Slow Dog!
I was assuming stlsmiln must have originally connected the 2 nodes with "Join selected endnodes with a new segment' (because the description was "corner nodes" and "diamond". But if it was done with 'Join selected endnodes' (maybe by "corner nodes" was meant "cusp nodes"), then that's the trouble -- the 2 endnodes are on top of each other, and just need to be dragged apart. (That's why I suggested an illustration
