Travels of a Boy Reporter is an analysis of where Herge's Tintin went during his 23 different adventures. Larger versions available here:

The coastlines and other geographical features were created using the GMT mapping software [ http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/ ], another open-source project. It is used for scientific maps and modeling and comes with a useful dataset of physical and political boundaries. Most importantly for me, it produces SVG files so importing the data into Inkscape was easy.
Once I had the basic map done, it was just a matter of going through the books and drawing the routes.
This really would not of been possible if I had to buy Illustrator instead of downloading Inkscape for free. Plus the wealth of support materials available here and elsewhere online made learning Inkscape easy.
So big thank you to everyone who as ever contributed this project. Now I'm off to plan my next big Inkscape project.
