I was trying to find a method for drawing scenes (a room, or outdoor scene for instance) with one point perspective today. I found nothing to replicate a tool like the Perspective Grid in Adobe Illustrator, so I was looking to create something similar to it. I created guides based on a 3D box, which seemed to be somewhat similar. . I drew a 3D box, and then converted it using Object->Object to Guides to get this:
But I was wondering how to draw lines that would pass through the vanishing point. For instance, if I wanted to draw a line like this, and ensure that it points at the vanishing point. I can use my best estimate, but I would like to ensure everything is aligned properly.
Do I just have to draw a bunch of guide lines through the vanishing point and use them to align things, or are there better methods for perspective drawing? Most tutorials I have seen solely make use of 3D boxes, or use extensions such as Modify Path->Perspective tool to transform text.

Re: Perspective drawing using guides
Hi.
Your screenshot shows you have set up snapping of nodes to guides. Doesn't it work?
Snap the node to the vanishing point/guide intersection then use the node tool to shorten the path -move node while holding Ctrl+Alt.

I have not used Inkscape for long, and not experimented with different snapping settings very much, but I am not seeing how that helps in this case. I can snap to the guides, but that only seems to help if the line I am trying is long enough to intersect with the grid intersection. What would I snap to if I wanted to draw a line that was shorter, but could be projected back to the grid intersection?
For instance, I can snap to the grid intersection easily enough, but if the line is shorter what can I snap to?

Re: Perspective drawing using guides
I dont understand your question, but maybe what i have in mind is helpful.
When i drew this 3D object, i created a two-point perspective.
The front text was warped with the Perspective LPE from the devel, but you could also use the extension of the current version.
Now here comes the trick (learned from a PS tutorial): to get the text in the back right, put the rotational center on the vanishing point and then scale with CTRL + Shift pressed down.
That way its scale down in perspective along the perspective lines.

Use Ctrl+Alt to move the nodes in the segment's direction.
Hold Shift to rotate guide line.
