deleting/moving multiple gradient stops

Postby brynn » Wed May 30, 2012 7:19 pm

Hi Friends,
Here's the situation. I have a long skinny, closed path, which we can think of as sort of a worm. It's filled with quite a complex linear gradient. Without taking the time to count, it probably has 20 to 30 stops.

Now I realize that I need to cut the worm shape into 2 pieces (because they need different amounts of blur). The small piece is about 20% of the original length and the large piece about 80%. And after it's cut, each piece is filled with the same gradient. The gradient's 2nd to last stop (the stop next to the end stop) lies at the place where the worm is cut, so that the new small piece will have a 2 stop gradient (consisting of the last 2 stops of the original gradient) and the new large piece will have approx 28 stops (the first 28 stops of the original).

So first I selected one piece and duplicated the gradient. Next, selecting the large piece, it will be a simple matter to delete the end stop, leaving the original first 28 in place. However, it's not going to be so easy to delete the first 28 stops of the small piece.

There seems to be no quick way to select muliple gradient stops. I can hold Shift and click on each one, but with 28 stops, that will be tedious. It would almost be easier to copy the stop colors, and create a new gradient. It would be nice if I could do a selection box/drag selection to select the multiple stops. Or maybe the ability to break a gradient like a path.

Does anyone have other ideas about how to do this, besides what I've mentioned? I mean with existing features; I'm not asking about potential new features.

Thanks for your help :D

With the gradient tool enabled, hold down SHIFT and you can drag a selection box around the stops.
