Cannot save svg
Cannot save svg
After I have TRACED BITMAP, when I SAVE AS the picture it is not saving the picture. I am using a Cricuit, when I try to import the file to work with it, there is nothing there. I have done this many times, I don't know if I am forgetting something or what the problem is. Thanks for your help!
Re: Cannot save svg
Hi -- First thing, look at the links in my signature, for resources you can consult while learning Inkscape.
Next, I'm not clear what your problem or problems is/are. Please tell us step by step what you're doing, and exactly what the problem is and where it starts. Based on my understanding of your message, you have 2 problems: 1) a non-SVG image, that you tried to use Trace Bitmap, and it didn't work, and 2) it can't be imported to your Cricut.
So, how did you bring the image into Inkscape? Did you simply open it with Inksacpe, or open Inkscape and then Import? Try File menu > Import. Now you open the Trace Bitmap dialog and do your tracing. It sounds like you are pleased with the result of the trace? Then when you File menu > Save As, be sure to type .svg on the end of the file name, AND choose .svg from the drop-down menu (Save as type:). (I know it sounds silly, but sometimes that has fixed problems I've had with saving.)
Also, depending on the settings you used for the trace, you may still have your original image stacked up with the trace layers. I'm guessing you'll have to either move it out of the image border, or delete it. Please tell us the settings (in Trace Bitmap dialog) you used for tracing.
As for importing to the cutter, please see our Inkscape and Cutters forum. Specifically this topic: InkCut Extension, send HPGL directly to cutter from Inkscape. One of our members has made some software to allow Inkscape files to be imported directly into cutters. (Otherwise, I think you have to buy something.)
I'm sorry I don't have answers for the "machine side of your problem", but we can definitely help with the "Inkscape side".
PS -- I'm moving this topic to that forum for you (but obviously you will still be able to find it here).

Re: Cannot save svg
That answer is so sucinct that I don't have anything to add to it!
However, I wanted to ask Brynn if you could post the link or thread/forum to the member that has the software to allow us to use SVGs with Cricut (or let me know privately)? (thanks in advance)
