Please report all forum errors

Postby microUgly » Thu Jun 14, 2007 9:19 am

This forum is obviously very new and I know there has been a few forum errors occuring. So far, two tables have become corrupted along with other MySQL errors. I also know others have had links not work or unexpected pages load.

I believe this is an issue with my host, not the forum package, phpBB, but I need to gather examples of things going wrong because at the moment they may appear as random glitches with an untraceable cause.

If this forum displays an error message or a page you didn't expect to see, please report it here and, if you can, take a screenshot of the page. If you don't have a place to host the screenshot I'll get in touch with you.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

In an attempt to get around the recent issues this site has experianced, the database has been recreated on a different server (same host). Please, please, please report any issues so I can know if it has made a difference.

There's something wrong with the display of poster names as you can see in the following image:

Yeah, sorry about that. The layout breaks on screens smaller than 1024 wide - I really should fix it. Thanks for reminding me.

So, you may have noticed that this site was unavailable for a period today. In an effort to correct the issue where posting would sometimes (often) not work the site was moved to a new server cluster. The outage was because its IP address was different on the new server (obviously) and it takes a while for DNS changes to propagate throughout the Internet.

Anyway, if you find the issue is still occuring let me know. I've been avoiding switching to a new host as I'm paid up until March 2008, but if the issue continues I think I'll have to bite the bullet.

I frequently get the
"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
error, ever since I joined this forum (a month or so ago). Frequently, as in twice daily, on the days I visit the site (maybe something like twice per week). I'm guessing this is server-related, although I can't be sure. But it's not happening at any other websites I visit, only this one. Typically it lasts for 15 to 30 minutes, and then I'm able to access pages as normally.

I don't know much about this, perhaps you committed to a contract in which you can't get your money back. But I'm thinking maybe they can refund a pro-rated estimate for whatever time you have left, should you decide to switch hosts b4 March. Just a thought ;)

Yeah, I'm in a contract until March. I was all set to defect but they moved my site to a new server which fixed pretty much all my problems. Everything seemed faster, session data stopped going missing, pages would load fully and database corruption stopped.

But recently they've been doing upgrades which has caused outages. I know this morning I couldn't connect to the host from home, but it's working fine from work. Their support is pretty good, so if I can identify specifics about any issues I'll report them.

What country are you in? I know they recently did an update to correct an issue where their servers couldn't be accessed from some countries.

I doubt the issue is with your browser, but if you are able to try accessing the site with a different browser at a time you cannot access the site with IE, that might reveal something.

Please keep me informed so I track the issue.

I'm in the US, western US, if it matters.

Unfortunately I only have IE 7, although I keep threatening to try Firefox. But this will probably be solved b4 I get around to it.

Yeah, it's likely I just happen to be logged on when they're working on the server (a LOT of late nights, lol!)

I'm sorry to intrude on your forum. I have absolutely no complaints... but I just noticed that someone is selling Inkscape on eBay:

I don't believe there is anything stopping anyone from selling Inkscape (or most other opensource software) provided they provide the sourcecode with the sale. Although I agree it is a rather deceptive practice.
