Stuck on Script. Help Needed.

Postby kevsim1 » Sat Jul 26, 2014 8:17 am

Hey everybody, I have a quick question here about a logo I'm currently in the process of making. The script is based off of this Image sign in Reno, Nevada. Now I created letters to make "CRAZY-EIGHTS", miming that font. I just made them solid colours. Now, I'm looking to make the "pinstripe" neon strips within the letter, rather than being solid, just like the picture I have above. The part I'm struggling with is doing that, using the outlines i currently have. How I made the letters, for example, lets take the E. I rounded a rectangle :tool_rectangle: , then used the bezier tool :tool_pen: to make the negative space "upside-down pipe" shape.

Now my question: What would be the best way to make the thin strips within the letters to make them right. Is just the pen tool that I should be doing, just going freehand. Help and advice needed.

Thx guys.

Hello there,

sorry to break your bubbles but that has no quick or easy go.
Most effectively it would be done probably either by interpolating paths or by using the pattern along path option, and both would need manual editing too.
It would take forever to give a step by step guide.

For example, these were similar:

I suggest draw the letter outlines or convert the text to paths.
Then use path offset to get the parallel curves. "Linked offset" might be best.
Then convert the offsets to paths.
Clean up and add breaks as necessary. Add a bit of misalignment for authenticity if you want that.
Group them. Duplicate the groups. Add some blur to the duplicate.
Place the blur directly over the sharp version.

Attached is an example how the pattern along path lpe could produce the core of such letters.

Wow guys! Thanks a ton! I'm fairly new to the program, so I can't say I was totally sure, but I didn't quite think there would be anything that would save me a ton of time. Like I say, as a new guy, I'll go through the different ways shared here, just to improve my skills, along with the font Henry shared. I'll chose the best one. I'll make sure to share the finished product with you guys as well!

Thx again
