Hello,
I now am getting a pop-up message about the Preference File every time I try to open up an Inkscape .svg file, or if I start a new one from my desktop Inkscape icon. I have no idea what it means or why I am getting it.
The message is as follows:
The preferences file C:\Documents and Settings\my name\Application Data\inkscape\preferences.xml is not a valid XML document.
Inkscape will run with default settings and new settings will not be saved.
I have the latest version of Inkscape and I use it just about daily - I don't fiddle around with the preferences ever, but two days ago I did try to make a change in the preferences (to change the ruler from mm to inches) but the message didn't start showing up until today. I've just been x'ing out of that message window instead of saying 'ok' and then Inkscape opens up fine, but I just don't know what it means or how to stop it from coming up every time I open Inkscape files.
Thanks for your help.
Mel
Help with Preference File message upon starting application
Re: Help with Preference File message upon starting applicat
Hi.
Just rename (or delete) the xml file.
Inkscape will create a new one with default settings when started next time.

Re: Help with Preference File message upon starting applicat
Thanks for the suggestion ragstian (sorry for such a late response back to you!) But I do not see that file anywhere. I went into my program application files on my computer for Inkscape and it is not found in any of the folders. I also ran a search on my computer for the file and nothing came up.
I mentioned that all I needed to do was x out of the pop up message, but the biggest issue with this is it resets all settings to the default settings and I have to redo all of my settings every time I use Inkscape.
If anyone knows what is up with this or have any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!

Re: Help with Preference File message upon starting applicat
This issue has been solved. I was able to find the preferences file in my hidden files and deleted it and the problem went away.
