can´t install inkscape on my mac

Postby joho123 » Thu May 22, 2008 7:38 am

Hi,

I tried to install the leopard and tiger version of inkscape to install on my mac mini. In both cases, I get a status picture, that says:

"Inkscape on Mac OS X
While inkscape is open, its windows can be displayed or hidden the x11 application.
The firs time this version of inkscape is run it may take several minutes before the main window is displayed while while font cashes are build."

Then the only thing I can press is OK and then the programm shut down.

Why is it not running. What do I have to do?

Thanks for help.

You'll find topics about this if you search the forum.

Well you make me sick. I was disgusted by the smart arse reply you posted and then I saw you are the admin. WTF? I belong to a lot of forums. Like the woodworking forums I subscribe to. Hundreds of questions come in. Do you think woodworking changes that much from day to day? NO. New people come across the same problems. The idea is that they come to a community setting and ask others who have shared the same thing. In the process they build friendships. You are one of those "RTFM" jerk offs that has no place here, much less trying to moderate anything but your own ego. My daughter has the same problem right now and I wish I had come across an answer instead of the crap you just spewed and a NEW MEMBER. You suck.

I'm sorry you took such offence to my comment--I'll admit it was blunt and I suspected it may trigger such a response. But I don't know the answer to this question--I don't have Mac. So I have three choices:
  1. I can ignore the post because I don't know the answer.
  2. I know the answer exists, so I can reply and let the poster know how to find it.
  3. I can take the same steps to find the the answer that you yourself would have to do and post the link.
I thought it was rather rude of you to make a smart comment because I chose option 2. I'm not a paid consultant. I choose to offer the information I have and not ignore posts that may not otherwise get any answer at all.

I don't apologise for offering up a treasure hunt when I take the time to give you a map.

Here's something I, as a member of this forum, must say. Isn't searching the forum before asking a question a very basic etiquette? The fact that you even bothered to create 2 more accounts just to troll means that you should do something to manage your attitude. :(
Every Inkscape work of mine is an experiment.

Those aren't registered accounts. Anonymous posters can choose what ever name they like.

RTFM is never wrong, though some people are very slow at digesting information, and not very apt at distilling their question into searchwords, so they are often disheartened by the wealth of information (and chaff) that makes a forum.

The Launchpad site has a nice feature, which might be possible for forums too - and right here i run into the problem i just mentioned : Google won't find it for me
-> Launchpad lets you enter a Headline, and then offers you possibly related posts. On forums, most people botch the Headline ("Help!! Urgent!! "), but somebody somewhere must have devised a smart algorithm (á la BLAST in genetics) that could crosscheck the forum for posts possibly related to the Post at hand. These then might be offererd alongside the " your post has been sent" message.

I'll check if a mod exists to do this. If one doesn't already exist it probably wouldn't be very difficult to write one myself... when I have time :)
