Is it possible to save an image such as this



in an .eps format with inkscape?

I don't think so. If you want to know for sure, create a simple picture with transparency, save it as EPS then open the EPS in something to see.

This is what I did, but I don't have Word or anything else to view the EPS with so I converted it to PDF and the PDF did show any transparency.

With a .pdf I get the same result showing transparency. That image that I posted was from 2008 Logo Design Trends and I was curious was it possible now to save .eps files with transparency because each time I did it the object came out solid. Usually logo are done in .eps files, but I guess in order to get this result only a .pdf will work. Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, saving directly to PDF will work.

You may find that those logos only have the illusion of transparency--each colour you see may be a seperate object rather than just a few overlapping objects. And if Illustrator was used to create them and they did use transparency you may find that those transparent areas were rasterised (this is what Illustrator does when saving an object that has effects not supported by the destination format).

So actually I am looking at a transparent raster image. I see now.
