Postby hardworkingmom » Thu Aug 12, 2010 6:08 am

Hi
I hope someone can help me. I am cutting out these pictures with my GX 24. Everything is going great except now and then I end up with one picture that produces a blank card!!! I am assuming it's some kind of seting, but just don't know which one. :? I am baffled, hope someone can help me.
Thanx

On the FILE that works CORRECTLY I :tool_node: selected all objects (Ctrl+A) and the Notification Display Help Message (bottom center of the inkscape window) reads:
"16 Objects of type Ellipse, Path in root...."

On the FILE you are having trouble with I selected all objects (Ctrl+A) and the Notification Display reads:
"Path (101 nodes) selected in layer Layer 1...."

Try the Break Apart feature on this file that won't cut.. Select the Path and the use >Path >Break Apart (Shift+Ctrl+K). The Notification Dispay should update and read:

"25 objects of type Path in layer...."

Try the cutter now, Hope it works..

Other things to try in case it still doesn't cut: In the file 'won't cut.svg':
  • Use 'File > Vacuum Defs' to remove several unreferenced masks (with bitmap images) from the <defs> section
  • There's an empty (nested) group in 'Layer 1' you could remove:
use <TAB> to cycle through all objects in 'Layer 1' and remove the one that says 'Group of 1 object' in the status line (do this before breaking apart as recommended in the previous comment). The object inside that group is another group without any content - no data will be lost by removing it.

Another difference between the two files [1]:
  • The page of the Inkscape SVG file 'won't cut.svg' had been resized, which basically moves 'Layer 1' to adjust to a new origin. The move command is stored as 'transform' attribute of the layer - maybe the cutting software doesn't handle this kind of command well? The attached file has been modified so that the explicit 'transform' attribute on the layer is no longer needed.
[1] 'pumpkin.svg' was originally created with Adobe Illustrator, by the way ;)
