Transforming square object into a wavy one

Postby HollyKnott » Fri Mar 02, 2018 5:26 am

Hello everyone,

In the image below, you'll see a quilt block that I drew in Inkscape. It's comprised of a series of square and rectangular shapes. I'd like to distort/transform it as shown by the outline on the right, to make it look like an actual quilt block made of fabric that is a bit wavy. I've tried several things to no avail, so any tips are welcome, if it's possible at all. Thanks very much!

You could try the 'bend' Path effect.
Make sure everything is a path in your object.
Then turn it, so it's not tilted.
Then group everything together.
Switch to node tool.
Then keep the group selected, and do Path > Path effects ... > + > Bend
Then click on the first icon after 'Bend path' which depicts the node tool.
Then bend the bend path.

Thanks for the suggestion, Moini. For some reason when I go through those steps, it only lets me narrow its width or widen it, keeping it square all the time. There's no bending or curving taking place. Hmm. I will keep investigating!

Drag on the green line with the node tool.
