I am completely new to Inkscape and I want to use mathematical symbols in it, so I have to use Latex, with which I am familiar. Inkscape is installed on a Linux system, with ghostscript, pstoedit, python-lxml and texlive installed (is there anything missing?).
I installed the extension "textext". And now the problem:
When I try to render the sample formula $sum_{i=1}^n n^2$ then textext reports the following error:

inkscape and latex
Re: inkscape and latex
I suggest you uninstall pstoedit (because it sucks) and install pdf2svg which works nicely.
Look for the link on the textext page for a link.

Yeha, it works! Thank you very much, towolf
I had to add /usr/local/bin to PATH to get it working, but nothing more.
Thanks a lot.
