Hello everybody.
Why doesn't the perspective tool work when I do the following:
1. create my art work to be put in perspective;
2. use the rectangle tool to create a shape;
3. un-fill the rectangle and turn its stroke into a path;
at this point the rectangle path is in the same state as if you created the path using the pen tool.
So, why can't you select both the artwork (turned into paths) and the rectangle path and hit Extensions > Perspective and have the art work placed into the path?
Thank's a lot!

2. use the rectangle tool to create a shape;
The perspective path has to be drawn in a certain way. You have to start drawing it, using Pen/Bezier tool, in the bottom-left corner, and end there, of course. As far as I know, it has to be closed. So if you didn't end exactly where you started, that might cause it not to work. Although I could be wrong about the path having to be closed.
But the position of the 1st node is very important. If you use the Rectangle tool to draw the rectangle, and then convert to path, that first node is not in the bottom left corner. Plus, usually for any relatively correct perspective, you don't want a true rectangle anyway

Another important detail is the order in which you should select the 2 objects. If I recall correctly, you have to select the object to be transformed first, and select the perspective path 2nd.
In case I got those details wrong, you can always consult the manual. Help menu > Inkscape manual > Extensions > Modify Path > Perspective

Orly?
perspective
Oh wait, what.
A rectangle tool doesn't have perspective. By transforming you can only scale, rotate or skew. Cannot do anything a transformation matrix cannot cover -yes, the perspective is that kind of transformation.
You just want to transform your group of objects(?) to a skewed rectangle shape?
Why not using the exact same transformations you used for the rectangle.
Or you want to use clipping to that skewed shape?
How exactly is this related to the perspective extension?
Is that the rectangle tool and not the 3D box?
To use the extension, select the path to transform first, then select the quadrilateral.
