envelope deformation

Sometimes when using the envelope deformation tool on text it causes the letters to become distorted. This seems to only happen with certain fonts. Is there anything I can do about this?

You might also check out node sculpting section in the manual, not sure if that will get you another way to achieve your result, but maybe worth a look:
